SERVICE DETAILS // HOW IT WORKS

Choose a finish without losing sight of function.

PLA is a practical starting point for shape, fit, and presentation. Matte PLA changes surface appearance; it does not turn an indoor model into a heat-resistant engineering part.

01

Standard PLA for iteration

Use standard PLA to check clearances, hole locations, ergonomics, and assembly access before committing to a different material or process.

02

Matte PLA for visible surfaces

A subdued finish reduces glare and makes layer lines less prominent. Show the presentation face in your brief so orientation and support contact can be considered.

03

The same rate for both finishes

PLA and Matte PLA are both $0.05/g for material. The $100 job minimum applies once to material plus machine time at $60/hour, including setup and cooldown. Material is included in the minimum. Rush, fulfillment, tax, and separately quoted hardware are additional. PLA includes a 10-minute setup and cooldown allowance per occupied plate.

Compare the available colors below. Finish formulations have different published properties, so keep the quoted option consistent when evaluating repeat parts.

MAT_01

PLA

Black, Red, or Silver

Material: $0.05/g

BEST FOR

Fit checks, rigid brackets, covers, jigs, presentation models, assembly aids, and fast design iterations.

APPLICATION LIMIT

Use caution around sustained heat, outdoor exposure, repeated impact, long-term load, or safety-critical service.

MAT_02

Matte PLA

Matte Black

Material: $0.05/g

BEST FOR

Visible housings, demo hardware, architectural models, display pieces, and presentation-ready prototypes.

APPLICATION LIMIT

The refined finish does not add heat resistance or certify the part for structural, outdoor, or safety-critical use.

TURNAROUND // EXPECTATIONS

Plan your PLA print and local handoff.

Many standard jobs take 24–48 hours. Same-day options depend on the model, material preparation, print duration, and the current queue.

01

Upload the production file

InstantQuote accepts STL, OBJ, STEP, STP, and 3MF files up to 5 MB each. Select material, color, quantity, and fulfillment to see the quote.

02

Confirm the production window

A technician reviews the file before production. Include your required pickup or delivery time so we can confirm whether same-day service is feasible.

03

Collect or receive your parts

Choose Downtown San Francisco pickup, Bay Area courier, or US shipping. Shipping transit is separate from production time.

PART EXAMPLES // APPLICATIONS

PLA parts that answer useful design questions.

These are application candidates. The finished part's geometry, print orientation, and operating conditions determine its performance.

PART_01

Assembly fit models

Check component positions, tool access, and mating clearances before ordering an engineering-material prototype.

PART_02

Presentation housings

Show the form and scale of development hardware. Matte PLA is useful when reduced surface glare matters.

PART_03

Form and ergonomic studies

Compare size, shape, and hand placement with a physical model. Keep heated or highly loaded tests for a suitable material.

PART_04

Indoor jigs and organizers

Make light-duty locating aids, tool holders, and assembly organizers for controlled indoor conditions.

BEFORE PRODUCTION // CHECKLIST

Get more from your first PLA prototype.

Tell us which question the model needs to answer: fit, appearance, assembly, or light-duty use.

01

Mark critical dimensions

Identify mating faces, hole positions, and clearances. Use the intended units and export the correct CAD revision.

02

Identify visible faces

For a demo or presentation model, show which surfaces matter most. Orientation and supports influence appearance even with a matte finish.

03

Move to function deliberately

After checking fit, choose PETG, ASA, carbon fiber nylon, or TPU if the next test requires greater toughness, weather resistance, heat resistance, or flexibility.

KNOWLEDGE BASE // FAQ

Questions about pla 3d printing in san francisco.

These answers describe the current AIURION print service. The actual file, application, quantity, and active production queue determine the final plan.

01 What is the difference between PLA and Matte PLA?

Both are rigid PLA options for controlled indoor use. Standard PLA has a smooth standard finish; Matte PLA has a subdued surface with less glare. Their published mechanical values differ, so matte appearance should not be interpreted as greater strength.

02 Can PLA handle heat or outdoor use?

PLA is best treated as an indoor prototype material. Sustained heat, sunlight, and load can change its fit or performance. Consider PETG for tougher utility parts or ASA for sustained outdoor exposure, then evaluate the finished part.

03 Are PLA prints ready for presentation?

PLA and Matte PLA can produce useful presentation models, but FDM layer lines and support-contact marks may remain. Identify important visible surfaces and contact us if your project needs separately scoped finishing.

04 How much does PLA 3D printing cost?

PLA: $0.05/g; Matte PLA: $0.05/g for material. The $100 job minimum applies once to material plus machine time at $60/hour, including setup and cooldown. Material is included in the minimum. Rush, fulfillment, tax, and separately quoted hardware are additional. The per-gram rate is not the complete print price; upload your model for the job total.

05 Can you print PLA the same day in San Francisco?

Same-day pickup or Bay Area courier is available for feasible jobs after file review. Material preparation, geometry, print duration, quantity, and capacity determine the confirmed window. Many standard orders take 24–48 hours.

06 What file formats do you accept?

Upload STL, OBJ, STEP, STP, or 3MF files, up to 5 MB per file. Confirm units, dimensions, and the final CAD revision before ordering.
